Time and again, Facebook has implied that they won’t add the ‘dislike’ button ever. Their reasoning is that the existence of ‘like’ button is to encourage “positive social interactions” and obviously, the inclusion of Facebook ‘dislike’ button will create “negative” social interaction experience.
I believe that this stance is more for the benefit of Facebook because the inclusion of dislike button will eat their advertisement profits! Nonetheless, there are some really good ways to use the Facebook dislike button in Facebook chat, comment or status update. Do note in advance that, in certain cases, they work or are visible only if other users have installed the same.
Let’s get on.
How to use Dislike Button in Facebook Chat, Comments or Status Updates
1) Facebook Dislike Button in Messenger
This is an official addition from Facebook. In December 2013, they introduced a pack of ‘likes’ for the Facebook messenger application and this includes the dislike button. Of course, this means that the use of dislike button is limited to the person you’re in conversation with privately.
To use this, go to Facebook messenger and click on the smiley logo visible at the bottom-right of the chat window. Click on the store icon as shown in the image and scroll down for the stickers. Click on Free and they will be installed.
2) Facebook Dislike Button in Firefox
If you use the Firefox browser, install the Facebook Dislike add-on created by Thomas Moquet way back in 2009.
Once installed, the dislike button is visible on posts, comments or status updates.
3) Facebook Dislike Button in Google Chrome
Like Firefox, Google Chrome has the FB Dislike extension and it is quite popular with Chrome users. Once installed, the ‘Dislike’ option shows up on posts.
Some users complain that the application doesn’t work but you need to check it out for yourself. Also, the extension delivers advertisements. Therefore, don’t use it if you don’t want to see advertisements. Alternatively, you can use AdBlock Chrome extension and eliminate ads from every webpage.
For both the Firefox and Chrome extension, remember that it works or is visible only when people in your network are using either of the applications as well.
4) Just Copy / Paste
Well, the easiest of all is to copy / paste this image.
Copy the image and it works!
So, what are you waiting for? Go and dislike whatever you want.
