How to Speed Up Your Slow Internet Connection

Tanmay Internet Leave a Comment

So many people are battling with slow internet connection problems even though they believe they’re using the best internet connection service. The speed of an internet connection is determined by so many factors and there are a lot of things you can do to significantly improve your internet speed. This post will be giving you some tips to help you speed up your slow internet connection.
Use a Better Browser
The browser you use has a great effect on the speed you will get when trying to access the internet so it is very important to use a better browser and not necessarily the default one that came with your computer. Most people use internet explorer but I have observed that internet explorer contributes to the slowness of a website so you might want to try some better browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Opera Browser.
Tip: Speed up Internet Explorer 8 and Speed up Firefox.
Disable Add-ons
By following my above suggestion your next question will be what if my internet connection is still slow after using a different browser? The solution to this is very simple yet many people are ignorant of it. A lot of people load their browser with a lot of add-ons that aren’t useful to them and end up cluttering their browser. These add-ons constitute to the slow speed of your internet connection so you might want to disable the unnecessary ones. Make sure you only use an add-on that is “totally necessary”, if you feel you don’t have much need for an add-on you will be better off disabling it.
Tip: Cut Firefox Memory Usage.
Update Your Drivers
It is also important to make sure all your drivers are up to date because a lot of broadband connection malfunctioning has to do with outdated drivers. If you notice that your system is acting strangely as far as internet access is concerned you should make sure you try updating your drivers. You can get the latest version of your drivers from the internet or from your local computer store.
Update Your Hardwares
It is always surprising to see someone using a 1999 modem and then complaining about his/her internet connection being slow. Speed has to do with the new era (not the old) and a lot of old and outdated hardwares such as your modems, cables etc. will contribute to the slowness of your internet connection so it is important to make sure you have them all upgraded. In most cases, this step alone is enough to solve 99% of the problems you’re facing.
Contact Your ISP
Unknown to them, many people are using very slow internet connection packages (probably the slowest their ISP provides) and there is no tweaking you can do to help them improve their speed. In cases like this it is highly important to contact your ISP to inquire about your internet package; you should also learn more about other packages and “if necessary” upgrade to the latest and best package offered by your ISP.

Contacting the ISP is what I regard to be the most important…
In the UK – most ISP’s will now increase your speed free of charge by putting you on a different tarrif.
I’ve had my speed upgraded from 8mb to 20mb free of charge!

Go here – and put in your postcode…

It’ll tell you everything about your exchange – how far away you are, the providers there and also the technology available.

I’ve always had internet explorer and I never used anything else. What can Google chrome and Firefox do that Internet Explorer cant?

The worst thing about IE is that it is slower than Chrome and Firefox. Another advantage of using the later two is there are lots of add-on and extensions. You can do various task with them which can’t be dome with IE.
