Restart Windows Explorer from Context Menu in Windows 7/ 10

Windows Explorer is an essential element of any Windows PC. Without having Windows Explorer, you cannot navigate through files those are stored in your hard drive. On the other hand, variety of problems may be occurred if you have any problem with Windows Explorer.
However, sometime, we confront to different problems when we need to restart Windows Explorer so that it runs smoothly for one ore time. You can easily restart Windows Explorer of any Windows version including Windows 10, Windows 8 or Windows 7 right from Windows Task Manager. However, if you are getting issues in Task Manager and want to do a different things to face such problems, here is a solution. This tutorial will help you to restart Windows Explorer from right click context menu.

How to Restart Windows Explorer from Content Menu?

The very common and generally used procedure of restarting Windows Explorer is as follows:
1. Press Alt +Ctrl + Del and click on “Start Task manager“.
2. Select explorer.exe from the list of running processes under the “Processes” tab.

3. Click on “End Process” button.
This will stop the Windows explorer. To restart that, you should follow the steps below:
1. At the Task Manager window, head to the “Applications” tab and click on “New Task…”.

2. A “Create New Task” pop-up box will appear. Type “explorer.exe” (without the quotes) and click “OK”.

This will start the Windows explorer again.
But, what would be that if you could complete all the above steps by a single click from the right-click context menu? Yes, all those workarounds can be done from the context menu by adding an entry. Well! Let me go through the steps involving into adding “Restart Windows Explorer” at the right-click context menu in Windows 7 or Vista.
Step 1: Press Win + R and type “regedit” (without the quotes) then hit Enter to pen the registry editor.

Step 2: Navigate to the following key from the left side of the registry editor.

Step 3: Right-click on the key Shell and click on New > Key.

Give the name of the key as “Restart Windows Explorer”.

Step 4: Again right-click on the recently created key “Restart Windows Explorer” and click on New > Key to create another key under it. Give the key name as “command”.

Step 5: Keep the key “command” selected and then double click on (Default) from the right-side pane.
Step 6: Type the following statement at the “Value data” field and click OK.

You are done! Right-click on your desktop.

You can see that a new entry “Restart Windows Explorer” has been added at the context menu.
Now, whenever you wish to restart the Windows Explorer, just right-click on the empty space in the desktop and click “Restart Windows Explorer”.
