How To Protect Your Twitter Profile

Tanmay Social Network Leave a Comment

Have you ever got troubled with the password reset request from Twitter? I usually get such emails and trust me they are very irritating, though I never requested any password reset. If you are getting such emails, be alert this means that someone if trying to get access to your Twitter account and if someone anyhow manages to gain access to your email you may also lose your Twitter account.
Anyone can request a password reset just by clicking ‘Forgot Password’ in your Twitter log-in page. All they need to enter there is your Twitter username.

As soon as they enter your Twitter username in the form there, Twitter will send you an email with a password reset request.

Once they get the access to your email, your Twitter account is gone. The hackers will hack your email and set a new password using the link sent by Twitter.

Fortunately technology has some or the other solution for each quandary created by hackers. You can improve your password protection by changing setting options. You can change the settings so as it may ask for personal information along with your username to reset your Twitter login password.
Furthermore you can make your Twitter login even more secure by linking your mobile with your account. You can activate the text messaging in your Twitter settings.

When you add your mobile number in Twitter password settings, it will ask for a confirmation code number which will be sent to your mobile phone. You can change or reset your password only when you add that confirmation code in your twitter account.

Now when you mobile phone is linked to the Twitter account you can customize the notification settings according to your suitability. If you have added your mobile number there just for the security purpose and don’t want to be disturbed with the notifications, you can uncheck the entire phone notifications.

Password Reset Request

By adding you mobile phone and personal information request in Twitter settings page you have made your Twitter account even more secure. Now when anyone would click the button ‘Forgot Password’ to hack your Twitter account, they will be asked your mobile number which would not be easy for hackers to know.

Hackers can enter your twitter account password reset setting only if they know the phone number you have added there. Once you enter your phone number here, you will get the password reset link in your email as well as your mobile phone.

Usually people use the email for such purpose but I would recommend using the mobile phone as it is safer as compared to the email id. Even if you are not willing to use your mobile phone for tweeting and getting notifications you can just use to keep your account secure.
In worst case if our email is hacked by hackers you can always use your mobile phone to access your Twitter account.
Below are few things which people usually do which makes Twitter dangerous

  • Using the password on third-party and non legitimate sites brings a risk of hacking.
  • Being very specific in tweets may also bring danger, such as if you write ‘bought a diamond ring from so and so store and now leaving, you might get attacked.
  • Never share your excessively personal information in your tweets.
  • Never tweet anything about your account security changes or moving servers or anything else related to it.
  • Choose a strong password, it should not be guessable. Hackers start from guessing.

With the growing boon of internet, Twitter has become the place for fun as well as business. However every good thing comes with a flaw and here the flaw is the risk of getting hacked. Be careful and be safe.
