How to Prevent Unwanted Users from Stealing the Wi-Fi Network
Once you manage to know that your neighbor(s) is stealing your Wi-Fi Network, you should take the action immediately to prevent the theft. I know, that you can’t block the Wi-Fi Network to reach your neighborhood, but you can secure your network using some settings.
Some of the most common techniques used to prevent the Wi-Fi Network theft include setting up a password for your network and using MAC address filtering.
- Set up a password for Wi-Fi Network: Go to your router’s admin dashboard and change the settings of the wireless security mode. Change it to either WPA2, WPA or WEP. Once you are done with this setting, your Wi-Fi Network is secured. No one can use your network without having a password, not even in your own house.
- Use MAC Address Filtering: Under this setting, you can select only the white listed device to access your Wi-Fi Network, all you have to do is to add the unique MAC address of all the devices you use for accessing the wireless network. Go to your router’s dashboard Mac Filter Section and add the unique MAC address. Once you are done with this setting only the white listed devices would be able to access the wireless network.
- Change the name of your Wireless Network: This is one the best ways to discourage your neighbors from using your wireless network. All you have to do is to change the name of your Network to something fishy and creepy; for example, virus, malware, cyber-attack etc. You can change it like – c:cyberattack.exe. No one in your neighborhood getting the network with this name will ever dare to access it.
Hope the above tips will help you to protect your Wi-Fi network from unwanted access. If you’re still a victim of Wi-Fi theft, you can kick any device out of your network using Android phone. Don’t forget to drop your comments.
