Every now and then, there comes a powerful malware that can cause damage to your computer. It would reside in your system and steal important information off your system. These files may not be visible and can be in any file type. It is when that file types is clicked by the user. It installs the malware on the system and then it starts damage. Most of these malware files come through the internet (malicious emails and downloads) and most times your anti – virus program is able to protect you from these threats. However, this is not the same always.
There is a new malware created almost every day, so it becomes extremely difficult for an antivirus to update itself to protect your computer from such malware. There needs to be constant updates and changes to the anti – virus software. To make it tougher, there is a new persistent malware that is slowing causing a lot of damage. The malware is known as Poweliks and has caused severe threat to data that is stored on your system.
Poweliks hides in Windows registry so as to escape from the numerous Anti-Virus tools. It is not your regular malware that you are dealing with here; it targets your system and does not use an installer to install malware files. It uses a technique that has been made popular by Microsoft to protect confidential information and the source code. In this method, there is a windows registry created with non ASCII keys. This is not readable by registry editor programs on the system and hence it is extremely difficult to detect – especially since there is no installer file present.
The fact that Poweliks uses a very detailed approach to implement malicious code into your system makes a lot tougher to deal with. For example, the code is not even active at all times, it is active for every small periods of times and when it is active – it sends vital information to a remote server and slowly steal all information from your computer. From here, it can install other malware, download payloads, use ad frauds, and install spyware and so on.
Poweliks is said to be contracted with Microsoft word files through emails. Many of the present Microsoft service are infected and the makers of the malware have sent fake email attachments from Canada post that shows the tracking information. So, this makes word files over emails very risky. You may think of it as a harmless mail, but it could cause you a lot of harm. So, be wary of any mail you receive from malicious or unknown sources from the internet that have an attachment. It is best that you avoid such mails and do not open them. It could take away vital information from your laptop and cause serious damage.
Poweliks malware is indeed a major threat as it creates no files and one should take all necessary precautions to prevent it all cost! The adage “Prevention is better than cure” holds true with regards to this Poweliks malware program which is extremely difficult to track once it infects your system.
