This method is a simple registry hack. As it requires the editing of your registry, I recommend to keep a backup of your registry before editing it.
Now open the registry editor (press Win + R and type “regedit” without the quotes).
Navigate to the following path from the left side of the editor:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTFoldershellexContextMenuHandlers

Now, right click on ContextMenuHandlers and select New > Key.

Give the name of the key as {a2a9545d-a0c2-42b4-9708-a0b2badd77c8}. This will create a new key under the ContextMenuHandlers key without any value.

That’s all that you had to do.

How to pin a folder from the right-click context menu

To pin any folder to the start menu, just hold down the Shift key from your keyboard and right-click on that folder then select Pin to start menu.

You are done. Click on the start button in your Windows and note that the folder has been pinned to the start menu.
This method works in Windows 7 as well as in Windows Vista.
