AVG and Livewire Increase Android App Store Security

Tanmay Android Leave a Comment

The Android smartphone is constantly under fire for hosting too many viruses, malware and Android spyware. The Android is also conflicted with spyware and users are always looking for a way to tighten security. But since most problems occur do to third-party apps available for download, AVG and Livewire are attempting to solve the problem right from the App Store.
Tip: install non-market apps on Android.

Pre-Screened Apps

Livewire mobile has built widespread relationships throughout the world with Android App developers. As a result, it is going to be hosting and managing the stores to come out on Daius, its well received digital content platform. This Livewire is doing in association with AVG. The goal is to work with the developer community to create a screened app store for users globally. All these apps that will be available for download will be pre-screened by AVG’s technology.
Another addition to the App Store thanks to Livewire and AVG is that future updates will also be secured and pre-screened. Once a user downloads an app from a secure Livewire App Store, all the successive app updates after the initial download will also be screened right on the Android device with another AVG feature. This feature, the AVG Mobilation for Android security solutions will be available for all users completely free. After using this, the download and update process will both be secured from any Android spyware threats.

Freedom to Use Social Apps

According to the AVG Q1 2012 Community Powered Threat Report, the use of social networks for targeting Android users showed a major increase as compared to previous stats. Since more and more social networks and entertainments sites are becoming accessible via mobile, the amounts of threat to user data are also increasing. Malware developers see these sites as key places to target large number of users simultaneously. They can easily trick users into installing apps disguised as fun add-ons or infect existing available updates of secure apps. This is one of the reasons so many Android users complain of mobile spy software on their devices.
The CEO of AVG Technologies has said that the aim of this venture was actually to diminish such threats stemming from social and entertainment sites. The threat was so large that Google removed roughly 100 defective and unsecure apps from Google Play, its official Android Market. It is no wonder that AVG felt the need to team up with Livewire Mobile to handle the growing problem. Users should be able to enjoy social networking from their mobile devices without fear of security threats and mobile spy software risks, he claimed. And of course, all Android users fervently agree.

More to Come from AVG and Livewire

The AVG and Livewire joint initiatives to fight Android security threats do not seem to end here. Both companies are taking part in the ‘Privacy in Mobile Applications initiative.’ This initiative was launched officially in Washington DC at the MEF Privacy Summit. This venture seems to be the first in steps taken to ensure mobile security when it comes to working with mobile apps. Hopefully, as the MEF Executive Director states, these attempts will help the mobile industry to ‘overcome key barriers to growth’.
