Google Publisher is the first official WordPress plugin from Google which has been uploaded to the WordPress directory recently. The plugin is built to help bloggers connect with Google products directly from the WordPress dashboard without editing a single line of code in the WordPress template. As we all know the two popular Google products that are used by majority of the bloggers are Google Adsense and Google Webmaster Tools. The plugin can help bloggers to directly connect with GWT and Adsense.
Although in future Google may add more products but nothing has been officially confirmed about any other Google Products such as Google Analytics, Feedburner and Google Plus. So how Google Publisher Plugin helps blogger? Lets find out below.
How to Use Google Publisher Plugin to Verify Your Blog in GWT
Download the plugin from WordPress Plugin Directory, install and activate it. Once it is activate go to Settings>Google Publisher Plugin and it will show you a “Get Started” link. Click on the link to verify your blog in your Google Webmaster Tools.
If your blog is already verified in GWT then simply login with your existing GWT account so that the plugin can detect that it is already verified.
If your blog is not yet verified then login to your Google Webmaster Tools via your Gmail Account and the plugin will automatically verify your blog.
Google Webmaster Tools verification is method is self-explanatory and I am sure every blogger will be able to complete it without any issues. So let’s head over to the 2nd feature of the plugin.
How to Use the Google Publisher Plugin for Adsense Placement
The 2nd feature offered by the Google Publisher Plugin is integration of your WordPress blog with your Google Adsense account. After your blog is successfully verified it will further display the Adsense option.
Click on the “Use my Adsense Account” button to integrate your Adsense account.
Once it is integrated it will show you a “Manage Ads” button. Click on the button so that plugin can start analyzing your blog for the Ads Placement.
The plugin will automatically analyze your blog and show you the places where Adsense ads can be inserted. The best part is you don’t need to mess with your blog coding because the plugin helps you add the code directly from the Plugin area.
As you can see in the screenshot above, the plugin has highlighted all the places with a Red + mark. Click on any of the + mark and paste the Adsense Ad code inside the box. Once done click on the “Save & Continue” button.
However as WordPress comes with different templates the plugin will insert ads in the templates that is currently selected. As you can see in the header there is an option for the templates. The current one is “Front Page” and if there are other templates in your theme you will be able to see when clicked on the drop down button. Select each templates and display the ads accordingly.
Although the plugin is currently in Beta but it seems a very useful and simple plugin for the newbie bloggers. From now you will not need to relay on third-party plugins to insert Adsense ads as officially Google has provided one with full support.
You can head over to the Google help section for more details about the plugin. Please note the Google Publisher Plugin can only be installed on self hosted blogs. Blogs on WordPress.com cannot use this plugin. This restriction is not because of the Google but it is because WordPress allow limited numbers of plugins in WordPress.com and Google Publisher Plugin is not yet included in the list. Although in future it may get listed but currently it is not supported.

Very nice article, how to use plugin to show ads on right sidebar using Google publishing plugin, please tell us pro & cons of this plugin.
You just need to install the Google Publisher Plugin and it will automatically detect the places including the right sidebar where you can place your Adsense ads. Just follow the + signs. They are the graphical place holders where you can place your ads through this plugin.
There is almost no disadvantage of using this plugin. You do not need to do any thing with the theme template coding. Just install the plugin and choose the place you want to ad your Adsense ads.
Nice article, I am still having one problem though. When I click verify on the setting panel, it just brings me back to the same page with the same message and the ‘Get Started’ button. No errors or anything.
The website is already verified from GWT, but I don’t see the Adsense and GWT panel in the plugin’g setting.
Please let me know how I can fix this.
Thanks,
Asim.
Even if “Insert Adsense” plugin hasn’t been updated in more than 2 years, it works perfectly for me.
In the last few days I wanted to change my main add on each page from a small one to a big one, and by only changing the HTML at Insert Adsense, all my pages changed at once. The other adds, stayed the same.
It does exactly what it proposes…and works perfectly on my bilingual site.
Simple and great plugin.
