Today Google launched a e-learning platform called as Oppia to help people teaching online without a programming knowledge. This education tool lets the people who are not familiar with coding to publish their teaching modules in an interactive way. Oppia is a open source project which is mainly devoted to provide the ‘Explorations’, built and contributed to by several people from all over the planet.
According to the Google, it is not just like a online content provider platform. It analyzes all the data on how the learners are interacting and offer the suggestions to the author of the exploration so they can enhance them. For example, if a major part of students are not giving the answer to a particular question in an exploration then there may be some issues with that. Possibly the question is not related to the previous questions or the difficulty level is high. All this scenarios are deeply noticed by Google and it sends a feedback to the authors so that they create a new path for the learners. Thus the explorations become more perfect over the time.
Getting started with Oppia
There are two parts of Oppia: Learn and Contribute.
The ‘Learn’ section is for the learner. It contains the gallery having several explorations related to various subjects like Mathematics, Geography, Coding etc. A student can open the gallery and select his subject to learn about. Every subject seems to be contained with tons of explorations so that the students can interact with them and learn step by step. As the service is just launched and in a beta phase, you cannot see too much explorations but hope every subject gallery will be filled with thousand of hundreds of intelligent explorations in near future.
The ‘Contribute’ section is for the teachers who want to teach their subjects online. Here the authors can contribute their teaching material by creating his own exploration. Clicking the ‘Create New Exploration’ button will ask the author to put the title and the category. Once done, it will land the author to the editing page where the paths and materials of interaction are created.
Here is the video that describe the procedure shortly.
