It’s again Wednesday!! The Adsense team has introduced the multi-dimensional feature in Adsense reporting in its New Interface Wednesdays program . At past, there were no such option in Adsense to track the performance of Adsense ads through multiple dimension. There was only the way to know the overall accomplishment of the ad units, custom channels etc.
Say, you have three ad units and allocated three separate custom channels for each unit. You could view the report and collect the data of Adsense clicks, earnings, eCPM, CTR etc. according to the ad size, ad type, custom channel etc. depending on a single parameter. There was no such option to calculate the performance more specifically.
For instance, you might have wanted to know whether the image ads or text ads are performing well in your blog for a specific ad unit as well as ad sizes etc. But this was not possible in Adsense since this day. You could only get the overall performance of the ads placed on your pages.
Again, if you wish to know the performance with image ads and text ads of an ad unit or channel, the A/B split testing for Adsense can be done for this purpose which is not too much efficient way as you cannot perform the testing with more that one parameter.
Suppose, you want to know about the number of clicks or earning from the image ads shown in an ad unit or custom channel along with the targeting type (contextual, placement etc.). It was not possible in neither the older Adsense reporting nor with the A/B split testing. Because, the older Adsense reporting system was one dimensional.
Right now, the above constrains have been removed from the Adsense reporting by introducing the three dimension reporting.
What is Three Dimension Reporting
The three dimension reporting in Adsense allows you to ad upto three dimensions to the report. Let us assume that you are viewing the report for a custom channel. Now, you can add the targeting type as well as the ad type to filter the report. This will show the performance data for that particular channel along with ad targeting types (placement targeting etc.) as well as the ad types (image/rich media ads or text ads).
How to add dimensions in your Adsense report
1. Go to full report page by clicking on the “View full report” link from the home page at your Adsense account.
2. Select a dimension from the left side of the report page. Suppose, you have decided to view the report channel-wise.
This will show the report on the basis of your choice.
3. Now, you can ad another dimension with the previously chosen dimension by clicking on the “Add dimension” button and choosing the dimension parameter from the drop-down list.
Suppose, you’ve chosen the “Ad types”. This will show all the data from the channels along with the ad types. This lets you to know which type of ad of specific channel performed in your page.
4. You can now again add another dimension. For instance, you select the “Targeting type”. This will show the earnings, clicks etc based on targeting type of the ads for the specific channels with the ad types.
To add a dimension in the report, click on the “Add dimension” button and select the dimension parameter. Remember, you can use maximum three dimensions in your Adsense report. Again, if you want to remove the dimension, simply click on the “X” sign beside the dimension button.
Adsense three dimensional reporting will help you a lot to track your Adsense earnings and optimize the earnings by placing bast performing ad units with perfect ad types.
