For me, Lastpass is one of the most important services I use after Google services. Like other online services, Lastpass has added extra layers of protection to protect your account from unauthorized use. Apart from the regular two-step verification, Lastpass offers an extra layer of protection known as the Grid Verification method.
What this method does is provide you with a chart with grids and characters. Whenever you log in, it asks you to verify and enter from the grid specific letters from certain rows and columns. The grid is provided to you before you enable this feature so make sure you keep it in a safe place, either your wallet or your mobile device so that you can access it anytime you want.
If you use Lastpass on a regular basis, I would strongly recommend you to enable the Grid Verification as well. This is because if someone gets access to your Lastpass account, it means he has access to all your online accounts.
Here’s how you can easily enable grid verification for your Lastpass account.
Enable Grid MultiFactor Authentication for Lastpass
If you are using Lastpass extension on your browser, simply click on its icon and go to its Preferences.
From the Preferences window, open Account Settings.
Now, navigate to the Security tab from account settings. There you will see an option known as Grid Multifactor Authentication. Simply check this box but before doing that, click on Print Your Grid. It will open in a new tab a grid table which you should print and keep it with you at all times otherwise you will not be able to access your account. You can even save the grid on your computer in CSV format as well. After you click the Update button, it will ask you to verify your address by entering your master password.
Now, whenever you will login, it will show you the Grid Multifactor authentication screen and will ask you to enter specific characters. For example, E3 means that you should enter the character that is on the third row in “E” column.
Internet is not a safe place anymore. You should enable every type of protection to protect your account. There is no doubt that carrying a sheet of paper with you all the time may be a little bit difficult but you have to do it in order to protect your account. So, if you ask me, I would definitely suggest you to enable this feature if you are not using Google Authenticator for your Lastpass account.
Did you know about this extra verification step in Lastpass and are you using it? If yes, feel free to share your thoughts about the safety of this method using the comments below.
