Centralize Google Applications in Desktop by GMDesk

The popularity graph of Google is going high and high for its various free applications that you need in every step in your cloud-life. One can find him at spending all the day in Gmail, Google Reader, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google Docs and Picasa Web Albums.
But the problem is that you have to go for each application by the corresponding web addresses of those apps or from the bookmarks (if you are little tricky). Again browsing each apps in your favorite browser does not guarantee that you never lost your current workings. Unfortunately,  you can lost your all workarounds for a certain crash down of your browser causing by an incompatible browser addon or memory overload.
It is quite a good idea to centralize all of your Google applications in desktop. GMDesk is such Adobe Air based desktop client which centralizes Gmail, Google Reader, Google calendar, Google Maps, Google Docs and Picasa Web Albums at your desktop.

The benefits of using GMDesk

  • You will never have to open a different tab in your browser and browse the corresponding URLs.
  • All the useful applications remain centralized near your finger – they require only a single click to be accessed.
  • There is no risk of having lost your current works.
  • GMDesk is an Adobe Air based application that means it is platform independent. You can use GMDesk in Windows, Linux or MAC.
  • It allows you to login with the regular Google account as well as the Google apps account.

To use this quite handy tool for your Google products you must have installed Adobe air (download Adobe air) in your device (MAC or PC). Then download the GMDesk installer and run it for the online installation. Lunching of GMDesk requires you to sign-in with your Google account and lands you to the Gmail by default.

To change the application select that from Google applications menu. Selecting on an entry automatically redirects you to the application page. Or you can use the shortcuts to toggle the applications from keyboard. The keyboard shortcuts are:
Ctrl + 1 –> Gmail
Ctrl + 2 –> Google calendar
Ctrl + 3 –> Google Docs
Ctrl + 4 –> Google Maps
Ctrl + 5 –> Google Reader
Ctrl + 6 –> Picasa Web Albums

As GMDesk works with both your regular Google account or Google Apps account for domain.You can also set your default landing application after the login. So, go to GMDesk > Preferences or press [CTRL + ,] to open the Preferences dialog box.

Here you can select the preferred Google account type. By default it uses the regular Google account. But if you wish to use your Google apps account, toggle that by selecting the radio button. Also select the landing application from the list if you want to change.
Basically, GMDesk is a good choice for the shake of using Google applications directly from the desktop- give it a try.
