Let us face it – Facebook is a significant part of our lives. Most of us are checking our news feed multiple times a day and it is perfectly alright too. However, one feature that seems to be annoying a lot of us is the video auto play that seems to happen a lot off late when you are on Facebook. This seems to be the case even when you do not click the play button or even intended to click!
Yes, it is a feature that Facebook rolled out in March this year and makes users see videos in their news feed auto played. While many of the advertisers on Facebook are thrilled with the advances, the same cannot be said about daily users that truly feel their experience is being hampered. In fact, users around the world have voted it the most annoying feature that is present on Facebook at the moment. Taking the right cue, Facebook has rolled out a way to avoid this feature! So, how do you get around Facebook videos from auto playing at the news feeds?
Prevent Facebook Videos from Auto-playing on Desktop Browser
1. Log-in to your Facebook account and click the arrow button that on the right top corner of your screen.
2. On the settings tab, a new page will open that has specific sections to the left of your screen
3. Choose the ‘Videos’ tab that is present at the bottom of the list.
4. Choose ‘Auto play videos’. At present, Facebook has switched this feature on for all users as default. All you have to do now is turn it ‘Off’ and you’re free from auto playing videos in Facebook news feed.
Prevent Facebook Videos from Auto-playing on Smartphones
You have to take a few extra steps if you are using Facebook via an application on your smartphone though. On an Apple device, you have to open the ‘Settings’ tab that is present on your device – this is pretty much the same for both iPhone and iPads. Scroll all the way to the bottom and click on ‘Facebook’. Once here, select ‘Settings’ and then choose ‘Video settings’. You would have three options when you choose this – On, Off and Wi-Fi only.
Choose off if you want to switch videos from auto playing all together. In case you wish to auto play videos when on Wireless internet – choose the ‘Wi-fi only’ option.
Android users – Click on the hamburger icon that is present on the top right corner of the Facebook app. Scroll to the ‘App settings’ tab and choose ‘Video auto-play’ in general settings. Just like the iOS, you can choose among the three options for your convenience.
As on date, Windows users do not have an option to stop auto playing videos in Facebook news feed, so if you are on Windows, it might take a little more patience with those auto playing videos.
