Asus Zenpad 7 Review

maadhav Tech news 2 Comments

Asus launched 3 new tablets in the Indian market back in August in the ZenFest. One of them was the ZenPad 7.This tablet was launched for a price tag of Rs. 12,999 and sits above Zenpad C and below the Zenpad 8. The device is built to cater your multimedia needs, but is it good in that? Stick to the end of the post and find it out.

Display

Asus Zenpad 7 comes with a 7-inch display with a resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels and gives a pixel density of 216 pixels per inch. The display is not as sharp as one would like it to be and sometimes you could even notice the pixels of the display. The display is further protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass and Oleophobic coating on the top. The touch was responsive and the colors produced looked really good. The colors were on the warmer side, but that can be adjusted with an in-built app called Splendid.

Design

Zenpad 7 features a dual tone design. The color of the back panel was different as that of the body of the tablet. The back panel had a faux leather finish which really added to the looks of the device. Asus Zenpad 7 carries elegant looks and is one of the best looking tablets of the market. The device looks pretty clean and simple. On the back of the device there is an 8MP camera and nothing else. The power as well as the volume buttons are situated on the right of the device, more towards the top of the device which makes it a bit uneasy to reach them while holding the device in portrait mode. The front side consists of the earpiece on the top and the front camera sits beside that. Below that there is the 7-inch display and at the bottom is the Asus branding.

Camera

Companies often don’t pay much attention to the camera of a tablet. The case is somewhat similar to the camera of Zenpad 7. On the papers it says that the device holds an 8MP camera but actually the quality of the camera is not as good as an 8MP camera. It also misses a flash. The front is equipped with a 2MP camera which works pretty decently. The stock camera application has few bugs in it and the biggest of all of them is the GIF animation feature. If you try to click images in GIF Animation mode then the device keeps on playing the shutter sound and doesn’t click any picture, to resolve this you need to close the camera application or even reboot the whole device. The rear camera works pretty good in outdoor light but when it comes to indoor light, the device fails to impress.

Battery

The device comes with a Li-Po battery which runs throughout a day even on heavy usage. The tablet charges pretty quickly but if you are going to use the audio cover along with this tablet then it will take a lot more time to charge. If you are a moderate user then the tablet will easily get your work done throughout the day.

Performance

Asus Zenpad 7 packs 2GB of RAM and comes with a Quad-Core Intel Processor. The device runs games like Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5, Dead Trigger 2 easily. We noticed few stutters and lags while playing Modern Combat 5 but in the end, it was pretty good experience. On the other hand, while playing Nova 3, the device lagged a lot making it a bit irritating to play the game.
This device manages to play some heavy games really easily but if you move towards the higher end games like GTA San Andreas or the Nova 3 then you won’t be pleased with the device’s performance.

Verdict

Asus Zenpad 7 gives a lot of good features for the price it comes for. If you are looking for a tablet for entertainment purpose then you can definitely think to buy this one. If you are one of those guys who want a good camera then I think you should think of something else. If you are a movie buff then the 7-inch display and the Audio Cover won’t fail to impress you at all!
