OS X Yosemite is the latest and probably the most attractive version that belongs to Apple MAC. Although, Apple has launched couple of OS X versions over the past few years, yet OS X Yosemite is the best in terms of features, visual design etc.
One of the most attractive features of Yosemite is “Dock”. Even though, MAC has a dock since the initial release but this time Apple has included something really awesome. It comes with a flat design that looks better than previous versions. On the other hand, iOS also has a dock, where you can pin your mostly used apps. But, it doesn’t contain many useful features to make your own or run it as per your requirements.
This is where the Cydia tweak called Harbor comes in the action. Harbor is a premium Cydia tweak, which is available on BigBoss repository. What it does is simply very useful and many iOS users have been looking for such features since couple of years. Harbor provides almost same dock as it is on OS X Yosemite.
System Requirements to install Harbor Cydia tweak
The first and foremost requirement is you must have a Jailbroken iOS device. The second and last requirement is your device must be running iOS 8 or later version.
How to get Yosemite Like dock on iOS 8 Using Harbor
With Harbor, this is really very easy to get Yosemite like Doc in your iOS 8 device and it’s not too much time consuming.
At first, install Harbor from BigBoss repository. This paid Cydia tweak costs only $2.99. The price seems negligible after considering all the features.
Anyway, after installing Harbor, open up stock iOS Settings app and scroll down to open Harbor settings. You need to enable Harbor to get started. Just tap once on the ENABLE button and Respring to get changes instantly.
After enabling Harbor on your iOS device, you will get some settings to customize your dock according to your wish. The Settings pane looks as follows.
It has couple of options that need to be changed. For instance, you can change Animation Duration, Dock Margin, Wave Height, Wave Width etc. This is the first group of settings. If you change the Wave Height, Wave Width, your dock would be looking like this.
It actually changes the height and width of space that appears when you tap on any app on the dock. The very next option is to change the Bounce.
What is Bounce? How does it work?
Suppose, you are using Photo app on your mobile and meanwhile, you have got a new notification on Twitter or got a new message on Facebook. If so, your Facebook or Twitter app that is pinned in the dock, will start bouncing right away to let you know about the new notification or message or anything else.
You can change the Bounce settings right from the SETTINGS pane. Just tap on BOUNCE option and select the time interval.
You can select from 2 seconds to 5 minutes. The Never option turns off the Bounce functionality.
Apart from these aforementioned settings, you will also get some other features.
For example, you can enable Harbor on lock screen. That means, it will enable the dock on lock screen, which is generally unavailable on non-Jailbroken iOS device. In addition, you can show or hide the app name while navigating through the new dock.
How to Pin Apps into the Dock
This is so simple to pin your favorite apps into the dock. Tap and hold any app shortcut for a few seconds and then drag and drop it on the Dock.
This is as simple as said. To remove any app from the dock, just tap and hold it. Then, put it on your app drawer. That’s all!
Drawbacks of Harbor Cydia Tweak
The only drawback of Harbor Cydia tweak is that the pinned apps always bounce vertically for new notifications. That means, if you want to use your iPhone in landscape mode, it will still bounce vertically. Hence, you may not see the app while using another app that uses full screen.
If you really need a Yosemite like Dock on iOS, this could solve your problem for sure. On the other hand, it costs just $2.99. The only deal is that you need a Jailbroken iOS device. Hope it helps you.
